Project management

Client: Leighton Contractors

Projects: Mumbida Wind Farm (WA)

Wind Turbine Manufacturers: General Electric (GE) 2.5xl

Dates: 2012 – ongoing

Leighton Contractors assigned AWS the role of project supervisor, working along side the project management team, for the construction of the Mumbida wind farm in Geraldton, Western Australia.

Work started promptly in 2012 with AWS technicians, working along side Leighton’s team of nominated international experts, to undertake all project aspects from turbine construction and installation through to the performance of a specialised hy-torque process and the delivery of an expert commissioning service.

The enormity of the project required significant resourcing, which AWS was able to overcome by supplying a team of 20 technicians, administration and team supervisors.

AWS technicians continue to work with Leighton Contractors, as well as the wind turbine manufacturer, GE at the Mumbida wind farm to perform servicing and repairs as well as turbine inspections and reporting.

Services provided:

  • Project supervision
  • Tower installation
  • Nacelle installation
  • Rotor construction and installation
  • Blade repairs
  • Mechanical and electrical fit out
  • 500 hour servicing
  • Turbine inspections
  • Commissioning
  • Procedure analysis
  • Reporting

David McPadden, Project Director, Leighton Contractors

The enormity of the Mumbida project called for a significant project team involving many suppliers and stakeholders, the AWS technicians became an integral part of this team.

Australian Wind Services’ professional approach, ability to efficiently accommodate our needs, and give consideration to the project constraints, resulted in a very collaborative working relationship.

I would not hesitate to work with Australian Wind Services again.
